Right now, a lot seems uncertain. We are uncertain about how long lockdown will last, how our economy will be impacted, when life might finally return to ‘normal’. Personally, we may also be facing financial uncertainty, uncertainty about our health, our jobs, our academic studies.
These times of uncertainty really expose what it is we have placed our hope and security in. Where we have built our lives upon the flimsy bases of our own successes and dreams, we may be feeling really shaken. If you’re building anything, you need a firm base. Isaiah 28:16 speaks of ‘a firm and tested stone’, ‘a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on’. This cornerstone is Jesus, the foundation upon whom we can build our lives.
So let this song remind us to build our lives upon the firm foundation of His love, put our trust in Him alone, and we will not be shaken.
Isaiah 28:16 (NIV) 16 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
Psalm 62:1-2 (NIV) 1 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. 2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
Psalm 46:1-3 (NIV) 1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
