Gift of PEACE (24/09/20)

By Susanna Salkeld

Verse of the day: John Ch 14 v 27
I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Unlike worldly peace (which is usually defined as the absence of conflict), this peace is confident assurance in any circumstance, with Christ’s peace, we have no need to fear the present or the future. At present there are so many forces at war within us; fear, uncertainty, doubt to name a few. As Christians we can know the peace of God moving into our hearts and lives to restrain the hostile forces and offer comfort in the place of conflict.

Jesus says he will give us that peace if we are willing to accept it and allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with Christ’s peace. The best way to receive this gift is to sit quietly in His presence, trusting Him in every area of our lives. We need to release our problem or a person we are concerned about into His care and Trust.

This can be so difficult at times because it goes against our ACTIVITY ADDICTION. We may appear to be doing nothing, but we are participating in battles going on in the spiritual realms for us and our circumstances. We are waging war, not with worldly weapons but heavenly weapons, which have divine power to demolish strongholds.

As it tells us in 2 Corinthians Ch10 v4, living close to God is a sure defence against Evil!!

2 Corinthians 10:4 (NIV)
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
