DAY 1 Wednesday 19th April

As anticipated, another bright, sunny morning as we boarded the bus right by our beachside campsite. As we alighted at Minehead, we heard our names called – Barbara’s friend of 60yrs, Sheila, had briefed her sister Janet to wave us off. Not only were we delighted to have her company for the first half mile, we were relieved not to have to get to grips with the selfie-stick for the obligatory photo of the two of us at the sculpture marking the official start of the SWCP!

The first day’s 10.5mls was all we’d hoped for – perfect walking weather, varied terrain, superb views, Exmoor ponies, and all too soon we were descending from the moor with Porlock Marsh stretching round the bay between us and our destination.
